The city of Auburn is one the more progressive cities in the south. The university and schools here set an example for everyone with their diversity of students and the standard of education. The relation of Auburn with academics and studies has been quite a historical one. In its early years of 1820s and 1830s, a few schools and academies were open, which sparked an influx of people migrating to Auburn for education opportunities.
But during the civil war things went haywire and all schools and colleges were closed, and Auburn became a site for hospitals for Texan Confederate soldiers. After a few more touch years, The city however again saw students migrating to this place and the economy of Auburn grew fast.

Did you know that Auburn is also referred to as the “The Loveliest Village on The Plains”? It got this name from its mentions in the poem “The Deserted Village” by Oliver Goldsmith. Even the Auburn University has a lot of names. It was first called the East Alabama Male College in 1856, then in 1872 it changed to Agricultural and Mechanical college of Alabama, in 1899, the Alabama Polytechnic Institute and finally in 1960 it got its name the Auburn University. Also, another interesting fact is that the university actually closed its doors for 5 years in 1861-66 due to the Civil War.
